Smuggling of tuna fish to Iran costs $50 million yearly
Smuggling of tuna fish to Iran costs Pakistan at least $50 million a year as fisheries experts urge the government to regularise the illegal seafood trade with neighbouring country to help costal communities’ augment their income and lifestyle. “Around 200 tons of tuna fish is being smuggled to Iran on a daily basis through Gwadar port of Balochistan”, said Technical Advisor (Marine Fisheries) at WWF-Pakistan, Muhammad Moazzam Khan …

What has prosecuting farmers got to do with animal welfare? (Video)
Camilla Swift
If you were concerned about animal welfare, would you choose to spend money on prosecuting farmers whose welfare is below par? Or would you spend that money on improving animal welfare through regular unannounced farm inspections, and the labeling of meat that has met strict welfare standards? There seems to be a split in the RSPCA, and it’s this farming issue that’s causing all the trouble …

AN AWFUL NEW TREND
We got a big thank you today from BAWA supporter Helen for rescuing a dog whose owners seemed to think he was a bird and had him in a bird cage hanging from a tree in their family compound.
We’ve been receiving more and more reports of people keeping small breed dogs such as Chihuahuas and Pekinese in tiny cages, often made for birds, with scarcely room to stand up. In the case reported to us by Helen, the dog was baking in direct sunlight at certain times of the day.
Our photograph shows another small dog BAWA rescued recently from confinement in a bird cage on a pedestal. The poor dog could hardly move around.
BAWA works terribly hard every day to free inhumanely caged and chained dogs in Bali. Our team is out there responding to reports and educating animal owners against cruelty, day and night, to get better conditions for animals.
Resources are tight and we need more staff to deal with these cases, and staff cost money. Please help us. A monthly salary for a BAWA staff member might be less than a couple of meals at a decent restaurant. We really need your support to respond to all of the cruelty reports we receive daily. Our response teams depend completely on you to help save these animals.
Please donate on this page or at www.bawabali.com. Please remember that monthly donations really help us plan for the future and to pay monthly salaries and for medicines, food and petrol.
THANK YOU.
