NIH: Research Chimps Will All Be Retired to Sanctuary

In emails to CNN a year ago, NIH spokeswoman Amanda Fine had said the delay in retiring chimps was due, in part, to the selection of 50 animals that would be kept out of retirement in case they were needed for “critical research” in the future. However, work with other primates will continue, he added. “That’s exactly what’s happening here, and it’s thrilling”, Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Human Society of the United States, wrote in a blog post for the Humane Society. This week, it made it official, saying that 50 chimps still held at research facilities would also be retired to sanctuaries …
